History

SAWMILL TO FARM TO INN

Farm Road Estate’s rich history dates back over two hundred years. In 1796, William Cragg built a sawmill and the first business in what would later become the town of West Dover, Vermont. It served in that capacity for over 100 years, eventually becoming a working farm. In the late 1960s, it was purchased by the Williams family who lovingly converted it to The Inn at Sawmill Farm. The elegant country inn would become Vermont’s only member of the prestigious French Relais & Chateau chain and boasted a wine cellar of over 20,000 bottles. It hosted famous guests such as Oprah Winfrey and Paul Newman.

Re-Birth

New life was breathed into the property by the Levesque family and friends in 2019, when the luxury homes and Inn were fully restored and united under the new banner of Farm Road Estate.

The property has a modern farmhouse vibe that carries through to our rooms, communal spaces, outdoor fire pits, and garden. The 20 rooms and homes feature exposed beam ceilings, hard wood floors, and plush pillow-top mattresses.
